Our firefighters are constantly training for the worst. Training will keep us and the community safe. Last year we logged over 1000 hours of training. So far this year we are on track to go well beyond that mark. Company 19 hosted a twenty hour Search class taught by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. We went through and updated our members CPR and First Aid certificates with several classes as well. We had two of our members complete the 140 hour Firefighter Class that is a minimum requirement for any interior firefighter. Many of our members are EMS trained and therefore they need to keep their certification up to date. There is even classes taken to help the business end of the fire company run more smoothly. We train so we can better serve our community and so we can return home safely to our families after each call.
Sergeant Alvin Christy is our training officer and here he is teaching a group of company 19 members as well as members from our neighboring fire stations how to pump Engine 192.
All members of the
Wilson Volunteer Fire Company must be certified in Drivers EVOC. EVOC
or Emergency Vehicle Operation Course is a sixteen hour class that
includes eight hours of classroom work, a written test, over the road
test, and finally a closed obstacle course test.

If Eldon can not drive through the course, it can not be done.
Backing up Tanker 195 is not as easy as one might think.
